MEET MICHELLE

A Beautiful Mess owner Michelle

Oh hey friend, welcome!  I'm so glad you're here!

My whole life I have found joy in creating calm and functional spaces in my home.  Even as a child I would spend hours tidying and rearranging, to the point I’m surprised my sister who I shared a room with still talks to me!  The most recent season of my life saw my family of four travelling around this beautiful country of ours.  Anything I didn't already know about the importance of making your space work for you, I definitely learnt on the road for 8 months with two young boys in a 19 foot caravan!

The reason I love calm spaces?  Not because they look good (although I definitely think they do!) or are superior to messy spaces in any way, but because calm spaces literally help me feel and stay well.  As someone who is easily overwhelmed and has navigated numerous bouts of depression and anxiety, maintaining my home environment in a calm and functional way is a necessary form of self care for me.

I've spent the last 17 years working in Community Services, therapeutically supporting people from all walks of life through a wide range of challenging experiences.  One of many things I have learnt is the importance of having a home base that feels safe, secure and comfortable, especially when life gets messy in other areas.  I also know that a home doesn't need to look perfect to work well for you.  In fact, if it does, you're probably not having as much fun in it as you could be!

The most important things for your home to be are functional and hygienic.  When life gets hard or busy it can be so easy to find yourself in a situation where it is neither.  There are so many reasons why it can feel too hard to bring your home back from being a chaotic and dysfunctional environment: physical and mental health challenges, lack of time, lack of energy, overwhelm, trauma, insufficient support, neurodivergence, paralyzing perfectionism, I could go on.

When your home feels out of control, this easily flows through into other areas of your life.  I genuinely enjoy helping people find achievable ways to return their home to a state that feels healthy, functional and motivating for them.  I approach this with zero judgement, understanding that everyone's comfort and functionality levels differ.    Ultimately I believe everyone deserves a home that makes them feel good and supports their wellbeing.  If your home isn't achieving these important things for you at the moment, I'd love to help change that.

A Beautiful Mess acknowledges the traditional custodians of the Toowoomba region, the Giabal and Jarowair peoples.  In doing so it is acknowledged that the land on which those of us in this area live was never ceded.  It is also acknowledged that in terms of community, wellbeing and how we look after ourselves and our homes, there is much we can all learn from the traditional wisdom and ways of our first peoples.
